CREATIVE PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
“The Creative Portrait Photography Workshop is a 3-day immersive experience taking place from July 1st to 3rd. The workshop covers everything you need to create compelling portraits—from lighting and editing to photo manipulation and the creative use of AI.
Designed primarily for intermediate to professional photographers looking to refresh their work with new ideas and techniques, the workshop is also open to beginners who are eager to learn and grow.”
DAY ONE
INTRODUCTION TO PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY
The workshop will begin with an overview of portrait photography, discussing what it is, its history, and various styles and techniques used by photographers. We will also go into creating depth in photography using (Texture, Light, Shadow, Colour, DOF, Composition, Perspective etc)
EQUIPMENT
Next, the participants will be introduced to the essential equipment for portrait photography, such as cameras, lenses, lighting, and accessories. We will discuss all the equipments I use and why I use them.
LIGHTING
Lighting still remains the most important part of photography. Participants will learn about different types of lighting and how to use them to create different moods and effects in portraits. This will include studio lighting using different modifiers, lighting using optical snoots, hard light, soft light, natural light, and how to use reflectors, V-flats and diffusers properly. We will also cover the single most important topic in lighting, "the inverse square law"
COMPOSITION
I will also be teaching participants how to compose portraits for the most visually appealing results. This will cover aspects such as framing, rule of thirds, negative space, lens choice and angles, visual weights and so much more.
HANDS-ON PRACTICE
Participants will have a chance to practice what they've learned in a live shooting session with a model.
DAY TWO
REVIEW
We will review the basics of portrait photography covered on day one.
POSING AND DIRECTING
The participants will learn how to pose and direct their subjects, including tips for working with different body types and personalities.
STYLED PHOTOSHOOT SESSION
Participants will have the chance to be part of a styled editorial portrait photoshoot session, where different lighting techniques and styles will be used.
HANDS-ON PRACTICE
Participants will have a chance to practice posing and directing their subjects in a live shooting session with a model.
DAY THREE
REVIEW
We will review the concepts covered in the previous two days.
EDITING AND POST-PROCESSING
(PHOTOSHOP)
Participants will learn how to edit and post-process their portraits, including techniques for retouching, and enhancing the overall image. We will also go over techniques for photo-manipulation to add that little bit extra!
CAPTURE-ONE WORKFLOW
Participants will learn my Capture-One workflow, everything from importing, to colour correction and colour grading. We will also cover using styles and presets, smart adjustments and how best to work with both light and dark skin-tones.
DISCUSSION ON THE BUSINESS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Participants will get the chance to ask questions pertaining to pricing and the business of photography.
CRITIQUE AND FEEDBACK
Participants will have the opportunity to share their work with the group, receive feedback and critique.
Q&A
The workshop will end with an open Q&A session where participants can ask any remaining questions they may have about portrait photography.
